Dumpster Day

The Dumpster Days happen once a month on a Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The dates vary and are listed on the side-bar event calendar.

Rules for Taos Canyon Dumpster Day:

A current Taos County Solid Waste punch card IS required and not expired.
Your card will be punched once for each carload and twice for each truck load. Borrowing a punch card is permitted.

Items not accepted here may be taken to one of the transfer stations or the Main Landfill.

  • No branches or landscaping/yard materials.
  • No hazardous materials, such as paint.
  • No sheetrock. No cement.
  • Loads may contain lumber.
  • Loads may contain household garbage and trash, except items mentioned above.

All uncapped trucks must be tarped. If you arrive in a truck that is not tarped, you will not be allowed to dump. (Pursuant to Taos County Ordinance No. 1987-03 Section 10 - "all loads shall be covered by a tarp or other suitable covering before traveling on public roads, within Taos County.” Any person who shall violate this provision, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $300 or imprisonment in the county jail for a period not exceeding ninety days or both fine and imprisonment.)

If the Taos Canyon Saturday Dumpster Day is not convenient, you may go to one of the other transfer stations.  The Taos County Solid Waste punch card is accepted at all of them. The most convenient to us are the Main Landfill, Los Cordovas, and Pilar.  Most do minimal recycling.  The hours are the same for all, however you must be at the dump by 3:45p or you will not be allowed to dump. Since we now have quarterly dump cards (unless you purchase one for the year), be sure to check the dates before you go.
